About the Author
A distinguished professor of economics at Pepperdine University's Seaver College, Robert Sexton is a graduate of California Lutheran College and received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Colorado. Dr. Sexton writes frequently for economic and business journals and is the author of nine books on economics, including his newly released EXPLORING ECONOMICS and Survey of ECON published by South-Western/Cengage Learning. His research spans American economic history, economic policy analysis, statutes and enforcement costs, public choice, regional economics, migration, and economic education. Professor Sexton has been a visiting professor at UCLA and was Pepperdine's 1991 Professor of the Year. His professional achievements have been recognized with the Howard A. White Memorial Teaching Award, the Luckman Distinguished Teaching Fellowship, and multiple Merit Acceleration Awards for excellence in teaching and research.

Suzanne Somers (born 1946) is an American actress, author, singer and businesswoman, known for her television roles on "Three's Company" and on "Step by Step."

She wrote in the Introduction to this 1996 book that during a trip to France, "Jean Pierre... explained the basic premises of food combining to me. Fruit can upset the digestive process when eaten with other foods. Therefore, he told me, I should always eat fruit on an empty stomach. He went on to explain that protein or fats should not be combined with carbohydrates... [He] then explained that proteins and fats are easily digested when eaten with vegetables only, and that carbohydrates should be eaten in their whole-grain form without any fats at all... When I returned home to the States, I started my quest to learn about food combining." (Pg. 4-5)

She explains, "I call my program 'Somersizing,' and Somersizing is NOT a diet. DIET is a nasty four-letter word that conjures up negative thoughts of sacrifice and obsession and guilt. Somersizing is a lifestyle that will change your way of thinking about how to lose weight and increase your energy. Eating the Somersize way is a pleasure. It is a program for life, a program I will happily live on for the rest of my life." (Pg. 5) Later, she adds, "Somersizing is not a diet! I can't say that enough. Somersizing is a weight-loss solution to the diet roller-coaster: it's a LIFESTYLE, a whole new way of eating that will change your thinking about losing weight and gaining energy." (Pg. 13) She advises, "That's the key to Somersizing: to convert your body from a carbo-burning machine into a fat-burning machine." (Pg. 23)

She says, "Eating fewer calories jump-starts the weight-loss process, but our bodies adjust to eating a smaller amount of food by lowering the metabolism to keep us from starving to death... Don't despair. Somersizing can actually INCREASE your metabolism, so you can eat more food and still lose weight." (Pg. 10) She observes, "a low-fat diet does not guarantee you will lose weight. What you are eating in place of that fat will have a lot to do with determining how much weight you lose... Junk food is junk food, whether it's fat-free or not. It's nearly impossible to lose weight if you're filling up on these so-called HEALTHY snack alternatives... the culprit in all these fat-free products is... SUGAR!" (Pg. 12)

it is a terrific story, full of suspense and you will not ...

I, too, could hardly put it down. Very well written. I would have given it 6 stars if possible, but the story was not accurate as to why Roger bought my father's half of the airplane and why they went separate ways. It's water under the bridge, but the truth would have been much more interesting considering the subject matter of the book. Nevertheless, it is a terrific story, full of suspense and you will not be disappointed! Best of luck to you Roger and Marrie.

Roger is a friend of mine personally and I personally, think the book is awesome. For the people who say this man has to much information in this book yes your right it's written by him incarcerated in Australia so that's why he decides to include his life story. I think Roger Reaves tells it like it is and doesn't care what others think. This is by far one of the best books I've had the pleasure to read.

OK could be much better

I am not getting the 5 star reviews. Friends of the author maybe? I like books about flying, sailing, and/or smuggling and this book has all these ingredients. I was ready for a great read. I am about 1/3 through and not entirely sure I will finish. There is good stuff in here for sure. Enough probably to keep me going. That said....a ghostwriter would have helped immensely or maybe even a good editor. This is more like a diary than a novel. I did this and then I did that and then I did that and so on. A good chunk of the book is taken up with the author's childhood and pre-smuggling adventures farming and moonshining. There is a LOT of detail in here that could be skipped. Then there are some odd repetitions. The author seems to have bought a cheap car with no reverse twice. The author saved kids trapped under an overturned vehicle twice. The author was randomly walking along the road and saw horrible accidents right next to him twice. He was tortured by Federales twice. He chased angry smuggling partners out of his house at gunpoint twice. As the book goes on it seems to get more disjointed. He forgets to pay his suppliers and takes off with the money and the pot, leaving his sister hostage. He never explains what happens to her or if he ever paid. He hides out in Mexico from the law and then with no explanation returns to the USA like nothing happened. All kinds of schemes are started and then never mentioned again.
Another thing is the author early in the book apparently kills two Federales for the crime of trying to stop his pot smuggling by shooting at him. YMMV on what you think of that. This is NOT a cuddly never hurt a fly weed running hippie.
EDIT - finished it. 2 stars now, much of it for the whining tone about how coke really never hurt anyone, the Clintons and Bushes are all in on it, the cops do coke, the judges do coke, why am I in jail, the Medellin cartel wasn't so bad, etc.. etc..
Some other frustrations. The author seems to get robbed a LOT. He was endlessly getting ripped off or having drug deals go bad. He takes a boat about 3/4s of the way around the entire world to smuggle coke to Australia and the plan at the end was maybe sketched out on a napkin in 5 seconds. No matter - if it succeeded he somehow wouldn't get paid anyway. If he would have stuck with his original plan investing in California real estate he would have retired a legal millionaire.
