An easy and comprehensive read...

I read this book from cover to cover from a civilian perspective, having never travelled to those places described by the author, nor worked in the field of security. My opinion is therefore based on a more na�ve understanding of this field of work. The information provided in this book is very comprehensive (especially from a technical point of view), covers a large spectrum of topics related to the subject, and does so in great depth. The balance between case studies and useful/practical information provides the reader with different perspectives of the object of study. The tone of the book is nice and easy going as the author adds a pleasant personal touch with the use of entertaining expressions as well as anecdotes from his own personal experiences. What did I learn? The section of recommendations and lessons learned were of particular interest as many issues were raised that I would never have thought of. I found throughout the book some pieces of advice I can use for myself (for example, observing my surroundings and being mindful of what to look for, or certain behaviours to avoid or adopt). This book caters well to both experts in the field of security and less knowledgeable civilians such as myself.

I highly recommend the book for anyone working in high-threat environments

This book is a 'must have' for anyone operating in conflict zones, particularly in the post-Arab spring countries of the Middle East and North Africa. The case studies section provides highly detailed accounts of real operations with full analysis of both the mistakes and successes of the various teams. Mr. Seabrook meticulously documents operational tactics and weapons systems, and shares a a wealth of diagrams, maps, photos and other materials that one might only be able to find on the hard drive of a seasoned security professional. The book also provides essential advice for security / political analysts reporting on the region by providing up-to-date information on open source int gathering techniques, including the use of Skype forums, social media resources and websites. I highly recommend the book for anyone working in high-threat environments, both in an operational capacity or a analytical role.

Outstanding Book

I have known the author for a number of years and have worked with him in the past.
Mr. Seabrook is quickly becoming a subject matter expert in the area of working overseas in high threat areas. His book is based off of extensive knowledge from many years working overseas in some of the most dangerous places in the world. This book is a quick and easy read with case studies and reference material, after the book is read it should be kept close by to use as a reference tool.
I look forward to future books from Mr. Seabrook.
